Amangeldi Hydyrov was born in 1951 and lives and works in Balkanabat, western Turkmenistan. From 1973 to 1979, he studied at Magtymguly Turkmen State University. He became a member of the Union of Artists of Turkmenistan in 1988. Nature, particularly the mountain landscapes of the Balkan region, holds a central place in Hydyrov’s work. His paintings reflect the distinctive mountains, rocky terrain and open landscapes of western Turkmenistan. Alongside landscape painting, his artistic practice also includes graphic works and portraiture. For more than forty years, Hydyrov has participated in national and international exhibitions. His solo exhibitions have been held in Ashgabat, Moscow and other cities. His artistic archive numbers around 200 works, with more than 55 works reported to be held in private collections. Hydyrov has also devoted many years to teaching at the Balkanabat Children’s Art School, where he helped train generations of young artists. In 2026, a solo exhibition at the Balkan Velayat Museum of History and Local Lore marked his 75th anniversary.
