Meylis Moshiev was born in 1987 in the Gubadag District of the Dashoguz Region, Turkmenistan. His interest in art began during his school years, when he attended the children’s art school in Gubadag. From 2008 to 2015, he studied at the State Academy of Arts of Turkmenistan. He has been a member of the Union of Artists of Turkmenistan since 2022. Moshiev works primarily in realist painting, with oil on canvas forming an important part of his practice. His approach is characterized by close observation and careful attention to form, colour and texture. The artist places particular importance on the preparation of the canvas and has developed his own methods of applying paint and building the surface of a work. His working process is deliberate and unhurried. Moshiev may spend several months on a single painting, seeking to convey objects, materials and the surrounding space with precision while preserving the natural character of the scene. This careful approach gives his works a strong sense of material presence and visual clarity. Moshiev is an active participant in the artistic life of the Dashoguz Region. His works have been presented at regional exhibitions in Dashoguz as well as at exhibitions in Ashgabat. Art specialists from the Dashoguz Museum of Local Lore have identified him as one of the notable representatives of the region’s tradition of oil painting.
