Biography
Rustam Abdullayev was born in 1988 in the Lebap Region of Turkmenistan. From 2009 to 2015, he studied at the State Academy of Arts of Turkmenistan, specializing as a theatre artist and painter. He became a member of the Union of Artists of Turkmenistan in 2022 and currently serves as chairman of its Lebap regional branch. Abdullayev’s artistic practice encompasses figurative painting, landscape and symbolic composition. His works draw on everyday life, family, the cultural environment of Turkmenistan and the landscapes of the Lebap region, while also exploring more contemporary approaches to visual storytelling. His recent work shows an interest in symbolism and elements of modernist artistic language. In 2023, Abdullayev presented a major solo exhibition in Ashgabat alongside a group exhibition of artists from the Lebap Region. More than 110 of his paintings were shown, demonstrating the breadth of his artistic practice and substantial body of work. He continues to participate actively in exhibitions in Turkmenistan and abroad. His works have been presented in contemporary art exhibitions in Ashgabat and at an international exhibition in Athens organised with the participation of the International Action Art Club UNESCO. In 2026, his work was also included in the exhibition About Life, About Love at the Art Gallery of the Union of Artists of Turkmenistan.
